I See Me by Jay

When I look into these eyes

I find things no one else ever catches a glimpse at,

I see this fear of judgement

that makes her cower at confrontation,

I see this hopelessness for the future

that makes her choices her burden alone,

I see this desprate need for campanionship to make her strong

in the savage world of humans,

I see this courage

caged in her thoughts of inferoity,

I see these thoughts of abandonment

that make her cling to anything,

I see this devotion to her beliefs

that makes her fear death,

And what I hate the most is that the girl I see is me.

This poem has enjambment in every stanza, except the last one, because the thought is carried on into the next line.

There is repetition at the begining of every line with "I see".

In stanza two there is consonance with judgement and that. There is also consonance in stanza five with courage and caged and stanza six with cling and anything.

Stanza six has assonance with cling and anything.

In stanza five there is alliteration with the words "courage caged".
At the end of every stanza there is a pause so the reader knows to stop for a second.

I think this poem is telling the reader that no one really knows you like yourself. Also I think that the author is saying that sometimes you can't really stop being you and that all your insecurities and fears help make you who you are.
